Twin Cam Compound Bows
Twin cam compound bows use two power cams at the top and bottom of the bow, attached to the arms, to greatly increase the velocity of the arrow shot from the bow. They provide the highest degree of accuracy and speed, but this comes at a few costs. First of all, twin cam bows tend to be noisier than their single cam counterparts, which can be a downside if you are bow hunting. Secondly, the cams have to be synchronized with each other, which can make maintenance much more complicated and frequent than other types of compound bows.
Hybrid Cam Compound Bows
Hybrid cam compound bows seek to improve on the design of twin cam compound bows by using a control cam at the top of the bow instead of a second power cam. This control cam seeks to stabilize the power cam at the bottom of the bow. This is done to increase the accuracy of your bow but comes at the price of a lower arrow velocity, which makes hybrid cam compound bows better for target shooting than for hunting.
Binary Cam Compound Bows
Binary cam compound bows make use of two power cams, just like twin cam compound bows, but instead of attaching the cams to the arms of the bow to increase the speed of the arrow, the cams are linked together. This means that they can correct any imbalances in power or synchronization that may occur between the cams. This means that binary cams will provide a more accurate shot more consistently, and require much less maintenance when compared to twin cam compound bows.
