Tips To Help You Improve Your Tennis Technique

Tennis is a great way to spend time outdoors and to get a dose of vitamin D while you participate in physical activity. If you want to improve your tennis skills to make your games more productive and spend less time chasing after wayward balls, you can take some tennis lessons and use some strategies for improved practice. Here are some tips to help you become a better tennis player.

Keep Your Eye on the Ball

When you are starting to practice with tennis, there are a lot of different rules and techniques to remember when holding the racket and standing to wait for a serve. However, one of the more important details to help you in your tennis game is to keep your eye on the ball. For example, when you serve the ball, keep your eye on the ball as it goes up into the air and until your racket comes into contact with it. Instead of watching where you are going to hit the ball, keeping eye contact with it will ensure you hit the ball onto your racket's sweet spot to get the best throttle over the net.

This rule is equally important when you are waiting for your opponent to hit the ball back. As you hold your racket in position, watch the ball as it is hit and moves over the net and keep your eye on it as you make contact with it and your racket. Doing so will ensure a smooth return of the ball and full control of your return. When are watching the ball, you will find that your games are more successful, and you will be able to stay in front of the ball proactively, for example, and not have to make a sudden sprint across the court to get a wayward ball reactively.

Practice With Short Speed Sets

Tennis is a sport in which you need to be able to run across the court in quick spurts. To help your body get accustomed to this type of activity, work on your endurance by practicing short speed sets. A good type of practice with speed sets is to practice hitting the ball onto a wall where you run back and forth for half a minute. After this 30-second set, rest for a period of 30 seconds, then repeat the process. You can also practice sprinting back and forth across the court with a break in between to bring your heart rate down.
